Consultancy: Capacity Building for Proposal Writing and Development

Background

RFSU is committed to enhancing its resource mobilisation strategy by building internal capacity in developing competitive funding proposals. RFSU aims to secure funding from foundations, multilateral organisations, and the Swedish government, both locally and globally.

About RFSU 

RFSU, Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning/the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education, is a non-profit organization independent of any political party, trade union or religion. Founded on a firm belief that sexuality and relationships are central to the individual and to society, RFSU is dedicated to promoting a knowledge-based and open-minded attitude to sex and relationship issues. RFSU views sexuality as a matter of individual liberty and human rights, in which all of us have the freedom to be ourselves, the freedom to choose and the freedom to enjoy.

Objectives

RFSU seeks a highly experienced and skilled consultant to facilitate capacity development for our colleagues in the area of proposal development and writing. The consultant will:

  1. Enhance the skills of RFSU staff in proposal development and writing.
  2. Provide tools for RFSUs design and development of robust project ideas, such as but not only Logic Framework Analysis,Theory of Change and emergent learning.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Workshops and Training Sessions: Conduct energetic and engaging workshops tailored to the work of RFSU that are interactive and practical, with colleagues within RFSU, across all departments, units and branches. These should cover:
    • Techniques for designing and developing project ideas which ensure strategies, activities, and resources being directly aligned with desired results and problem analysis.
    • Writing compelling proposals.
    • Integrating monitoring and learning components within proposals 
  2. Set of tools: Develop a set of tools that RFSU can use for proposal development and writing after the course is finalised. This should include but are not limited to: problem analysis, theory of change, outcome development and more.

Deliverables

  1. Training Workshops: Conduct one 2-days workshops in English and one 2- days workshop in Swedish to be carried out twice, in Q1 and Q3 respectively. 
  2. Training Materials: Comprehensive training materials, including guides, templates, and checklists.
  3. Tools: Tools to effectively develop proposals that RFSU can utilise after the consultation has ended

Timeline

Implementation period: February and September 2025 with two parallel trainings in Swedish respectively English each time. 

Consultant Qualifications

  • Experience: Extensive experience in proposal development both in the Swedish context and globally, for foundations, multilaterals, and government. Track record of submitting successful proposals. 
  • Skills: Proven ability to design and facilitate engaging and interactive training workshops.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the funding landscape, donor requirements, and best practices in proposal writing.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Flexibility: Ability to tailor training sessions to meet the specific needs of different units within RFSU and the local branches.
  • Expertise in impact assessment and/or social oriented project management. 
  • Language: Excellent skills in both Swedish and English.

Professional Qualities:

  • Adherence to Intersectional Feminist and Anti-Racist Principles: Demonstrated commitment to integrating intersectional feminist and anti-racist approaches in their work.

  1. Cover Letter: Highlighting relevant experience and suitability for the assignment.
  2. Comprehensive Capacity Development Plan: A detailed plan outlining the training approach, schedule, and materials to be used.
  3. Financial Proposal: Breakdown of costs, including fees for developing materials and conducting workshops.
  4. CV: Specify the competence and experience of the personnel involved to conduct the assignment (CV attached)
  5. Previous Experience: Specify previous experience in conducting similar assignments
  6. References: Minimum of 2 references 
  7. Alignment: A brief outline of how their organisation aligns with RFSU’s vision and mission:
  • Vision: A world in which everyone is free to make decisions about their own bodies and sexuality.
  • Mission: Through knowledge, mobilisation, and policy advocacy, RFSU contributes to a world in which everyone is free to enjoy, and make decisions about their own bodies and sexuality.

Submission Deadline

Please submit your application by 2024-12-03.

RFSU require at least 30-day payment terms, no automatic price increases, and no automatic extensions of time-limited contracts.
